Sydney Buck scored 28 points to lead Homestead to a 72-47 win over Bishop Dwenger in girls basketball action Thursday at Dwenger. It was the opening game of the season for Homestead while Dwenger fell to 1-2.
The teams were tied at 12 at the end of the first quarter with Buck, a 5-8 junior guard, being held scoreless. Buck scored 13 points, including three three-point field goals, in the second quarter to help the Spartans to a 34-24 halftime lead. She continued her long-range shooting in the second half, scoring 15 points on five three-point field goals to finish with eight three-pointers in the game.
Grace German, a 6-0 sophomore forward, followed Buck in scoring for the Spartans with 20 points. Lindley Kistler, a 6-0 freshman forward, also scored in double figures for Homestead with 11.
Bishop Dwenger was led by Ally Christman with 15 points and Kathryn Jenkins with 12.

-- South Side's 200 medley relay team (Brooklyne Beatty, Baleigh Haynes, Isabella Herman, Marelia Miller) won the only event for the Archers in a 99-80 loss to South Adams.
-- Jaylr Radziminski won the 50-yard freestyle in 31.46 for North Side's only first-place finish in a 130-50 loss to East Noble.
-- Bishop Dwenger finished second to Bellmont in a three-way meet that also included Bishop Luers. Erica Evans and Marissa McDonald had two individual firsts and a first in a relay for Dwenger. Bellmont nipped the Saints 134-131 while Bishop Luers had 63.
