TERRE HAUTE — A teenage runaway involved in a carjacking that ended with a crash that killed another juvenile riding in the truck has received a 30-year sentence.
The 18-year-old boy apologized during Friday's sentencing and told a Vigo County judge he wanted "another chance at life."
But the Tribune-Star reports (http://bit.ly/XlX8yU ) Chief Deputy Prosecutor Rob Roberts said the teen had wasted many chances to change his life.
Authorities say the teen and two other juveniles left a western Indiana youth home in October 2011 and embarked on a crime spree that included stealing a pickup truck and beating its owner so badly he's now permanently disabled. One of the teens died after the truck crashed.
The 18-year-old pleaded guilty in September to robbery resulting in serious bodily injury and attempted carjacking.
