There's a pocket of bargain-priced gas on the southeast side of Fort Wayne. Prices for regular gas at three stations at or near the corner of Wayne Trace and Oxford Street range from $3.09 to $3.12 per gallon Wednesday morning.That's 20 to 25 cents per gallon cheaper than gas at seven gas stations in southeastern, southern and central Fort Wayne, where the same grade of gas ranged from $3.31 to $3.36 per gallon.

The stations grappling in an apparent gas war are:

*The Shell station at Hessen Cassel Road and McKinnie Avenue, selling regular for $3.09;

*The Marathon station at Wayne Trace and Oxford Street, selling regular for $3.06

*Oxford One Stop, 3003 Oxford Street, selling regular for $3.12.

The Shell station opened only one week ago, and manager Sam Humaidi said the gas price was dropped about three days ago to help introduce the station to the neighborhood.

“It's a grand-opening price,” he said. “We want to give people some good prices. We want to let people know we're here and show them it's a nice, clean place.”

Owners of the other two stations were not available for comment Wednesday morning.
