Coroner releases identity of man shot, killed in barber shop

Authorities have identified a man who was killed Wednesday afternoon in a shooting at E&M Barbershop in the Pontiac Mall, 1108 E. Pontiac St.

After an autopsy, the Allen County Coroner’s Office reports that Kenton Allen Beckman, 44, of Fort Wayne was killed by a gunshot or gunshots. The office does not release how many times a victim was shot. The office has preliminarily ruled his death a homicide.

Police were called to the scene of the shooting at 3:53 p.m. Beckman was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center, the coroner’s office reported, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

No arrest had been made in the case as of 6 a.m. today, according to Fort Wayne Police Department spokeswoman Officer Raquel Foster.

Fort Wayne police are continuing their investigation, along with the coroner’s office and the Allen County prosecutor’s office.

Beckman is the 26th homicide victim in Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2012.
