Allen County police warn of phone scam

Friday, November 30, 2012 - 4:29 pm

The Allen County Sheriff's Department says multiple people have reported a scam in which they receive phone calls and are falsely informed that they owe money.

The department's warrants division has received several reports that someone has been calling local residents and claiming that they owe a debt, sheriff's spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said Friday in a statement.

The people receiving the calls are then told that if they do not send money, a warrant will be issued for their arrest. The caller also says the sheriff will send officers to arrest the recipient of the call, Tinkel said in the statement.

No one who receives such a call should send money, Tinkel said.
