Rifkins' MetalX open for business in Waterloo

MetalX, a new metals recycling company in Waterloo founded by the Rifkin family, which previously owned OmniSource, is now buying items from the public.

It has officially opened its retail metal buying center at 295 S. Commerce Drive. The company will accept scrap metal such as copper, brass, aluminum, cans, appliances, autos, and other iron and steel scrap.

Drive-thtrough service and ATM payment are available. The facility is open 8 a.m.-5 pm and Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday.

The family sold OmniSource in October 2007 to Steel Dynamics Inc. in a $1.1 billion purchase agreement.
