Even coach is waiting on decision at this point

Saturday, December 1, 2012 - 5:24 am

The only thing more uncertain than Lindsay Lohan's next decision is probably the location of Ball State's next football game.

The Cardinals closed out a 9-3 season at Miami (Ohio) over a week ago, and the Ball State players – and coaches for that matter – have been in a “holding pattern” according to coach Pete Lembo.

“The players had Monday off and lifted weights on Tuesday,” Lembo said. “Wednesday (strength and conditioning coach) Dave Feeley had a short conditioning session with them. Thursday we lifted again, we watched video of the Miami game, and then we got out on the field for about 45 minutes.”

The Cardinals are still preparing physically, but with an almost endless array of bowl game possibilities, there is little that the staff can have the players do mentally in looking forward to an opponent or location.

“I'm hearing still to this point six or seven different possibilities,” Lembo said.

Make that eight. The Mid-American Conference announced Friday afternoon that the league had also come to an agreement with the Military Bowl (Dec. 27) in Washington, D.C.

The conference has automatic tie-ins with bowls in Boise, Idaho; Detroit; and Mobile, Ala., and secondary agreements with games in Albuquerque, N.M.; St. Petersburg, Fla.; Dallas; Birmingham, Ala.; and now Washington, D.C.

It is also still a possibility if other leagues can't fulfill their obligations or choose not to, that Lembo's team could end up in Memphis or even Honolulu.

Having said that, many “experts” have Ball State projected to many different locales, and some are speculating that the Cardinals administration knows but hasn't revealed that information.

“I do not know where we are going right now,” Lembo said late Thursday. “I also believe ... that the outcome of (the MAC championship game), as well as a couple of Big East games (today), will have an impact on it.”
