Merryman recognized for strong play at Huntington

Shane Merryman has been a significant contributor on the basketball court since he arrived at Huntington University out of Carroll High School. That ability has continued now into his third season with the Foresters and Merryman was recognized for it on Tuesday.

The Huntington forward was named the Crossroads League Player of the Week for the week by the league.

Merryman is a physical education management major, who guided his team to a 1-1 record this past week.

The 6-foot-5 forward began the week with 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 67-66 win over Marian University. He followed that up with a 27-point performance to go along with four assists in the Foresters' 89-88 loss to No. 10 Grace College on Saturday.

For the week, Merryman averaged 24.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per outing while shooting 69.2 percent (18-for-26) from the field. He currently sits atop the league in field goal percentage (63.0) and ranks second in scoring (20.44) and seventh in rebounding (6.78).
