Planet Fitness is already selling memberships

A Planet Fitness health club is planned for the shopping center where Scott's used to be at Maplecrest and Stellhorn roads.The club's philosophy is “Judgment Free Zone,” meaning you don't have to feel self-conscious working out there if you aren't exactly buff. And you can go anytime you want — it will be open and staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Memberships come with unlimited fitness training.

And they have pizza nights the first Monday of every month. Gotta love a fitness club that does that!

The new one at 4530 Maplecrest Road in Stellhorn Village isn't open yet, but a trailer in front of the future facility is already selling memberships. The trailer is open for presales 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Phone: 485-7979.

Fort Wayne already has a Planet Fitness at 6360 W. Jefferson Blvd., in Covington Plaza. It, too, is open 24/7.Discount Factory Direct has opened at 315 Wallace St. The store buys truckloads of returns, closeouts and end-of-season items from big-box stores, such as Target, Meijer and Walmart. Expect to find everything from clothing and shoes to tools, electronics, toys, furniture and more.

Merchandise is sold at the warehouse 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. There's a dressing room for those who want to try on clothes. An auction is held at 11:30 a.m. every Saturday. Phone: 739-6428.Fort Wayne Outfitters and Bike Depot, 1004 Cass St., has some great gift ideas for those who lead an active, outdoor lifestyle.

Nestled against the St. Marys River off Wells Street, the store sells bikes, canoes and kayaks, active wear, including Patagonia clothing, and even some locally made products.

The store sells The Good Ones clothing for boys, a line from One Lucky Guitar, based in Fort Wayne. It also sells Kind cashmere cozies and texting mitts, made here in Fort Wayne from recycled cashmere and wool.

Phone: 420-3962.The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department's Community Center and the Anthony Wayne Lions Club are hosting a children's used book sale and swap 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Dec. 18-19 and 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Community Center, 233 W. Main St. Used books for toddlers through teenagers will be available for swapping or purchase.

Children may swap up to five books per day or purchase an unlimited number of books. The Anthony Wayne Lions Club is offering a free book and bookmark to each child who participates. (Kids must be present to swap books and qualify for the free book.)

The center is accepting donations of gently used or new books. Books may be dropped off at the Community Center 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. If you have a large quantity of books, the center will pick them up. Call 427-6467 for more information or to arrange a pickup.Local fashion designer and merchandiser Neelam Soni, a native of India, recently started an online company, AddOns, to sell jewelry, handbags and silk scarves that she designed and imported from India.
