Concordia Lutheran High School students and staff carried on a longtime tradition this year — helping Allen County Christmas Bureau families. On Tuesday, students loaded 331 boxes and four bicycles on a school band truck for delivery to 25 families, a news release said. The families included 88 people, 56 of whom where children younger than age 18.

In addition to canned foods, personal supplies, new clothing items for each family member and toys for children, students at Concordia also raised money to buy grocery gift certificates so the families can have fresh food for Christmas dinners, the news release said.

Concordia, 1601 St. Joe River Drive, has been involved with the Christmas Bureau program for more than 35 years, the news release said.

“Each year, students and teachers — along with the office, cafeteria and maintenance staff — begin preparations in October,” Diane Lewis, assistant principal, said in the news release. “It is truly a team effort. Everyone here enjoys helping the Christmas Bureau. This is what Christmas is all about.”
