Book Notes: Book club meetings; children's book swap and sale Dec. 18-20

The adult book group meets at 2 p.m. Dec. 26 at Aboite branch library, 5630 Coventry Lane.Open Books will hold a special charity drive in honor of Hoosier author Susie Duncan Sexton's paperback release “Secrets of an Old Typewriter.” Open Books will donate $1 to the Symphony Animal Foundation for every copy sold through Sunday on Amazon.com. The book is available in paperback, digital and Kindle.Local author Janie Ebinger will hold a book-signing for her cookbooks at 5 p.m. today at Shorty's Steak House, 127 S. Randolph St., Garrett.Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Community Center and Anthony Wayne Lions Club will hold a holiday children's gently used book swap and sale 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Dec. 18-19 and 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Community Center, 233 W. Main St.Children may swap up to five books per day or purchase an unlimited amount of books. Anthony Wayne Lions Club will offer a free book and bookmark to each child who participates (must be present).

Donations of gently used or new books may be dropped off 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays at the Community Center.High school homeschoolers will meet at 10 a.m. Friday to discuss “The Book of Lost Things” by John Connolly at the Allen County Public Library, 900 Library Plaza.The Great Books Book Club for homeschoolers takes place at 2 p.m. Dec. 17 at the Allen County Public Library, 900 Library Plaza.The Cookbook Book Club meets at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Aboite branch library, 5630 Coventry Lane. Call 421-1310 for more information.Guys, ages 6-12, can discuss what they're reading at 4 p.m. Dec. 17 at Tecumseh branch library, 1411 E. State Blvd.Girls, ages 6-12, can discuss what they're reading at 4 p.m. Monday at Tecumseh branch library, 1411 E. State Blvd.The Lunch and Lit Book Group meets at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grabill branch library, 13521 State St., Grabill. Call 421-1325 for book's title.Kids discuss what they read and enjoy a root beer float, too, at 4 p.m. Dec. 26 at Pontiac branch library, 2215 S. Hanna St.Children can practice their reading skills by reading to friendly dogs that want to listen at these locations:

•6 p.m. Monday and Dec. 17 at Little Turtle branch library, 2201 Sherman Blvd.

•5 p.m. Thursdays at Pontiac branch library, 2215 S. Hanna St.A book club for adults who enjoy British humor meets at 7 p.m. Dec. 19 at New Haven branch library, 648 Green St., New Haven. This month's book is “A Rumpole Christmas” by John Mortimer.
