Glenbrook Square has found a new anchor for the space once occupied by Marshall Field's. Carson Pirie Scott & Co., more commonly called Carson's, will open a department store in 122,000 square feet next to Regis Hair, Glenbrook management announced Wednesday. Remodeling of the site is expected to begin in early 2013, with a grand opening in the fall.

“The addition of Carson's illustrates our commitment to offer our customers the best retail in the area. Carson's offers a great merchandise mix and we're thrilled to offer our shoppers with yet another stellar retail option,” said Glenbrook marketing manager Chris Ford in a news release announcing the new tenant.

Ford described Carson's as a “family department store” that will sell clothing, cosmetics, fragrances and home furnishings. He said Carson's, which will become the fourth department store at Glenbrook, is a good fit for this market.

“Carson's speaks to our shoppers,” he said, because those shoppers “have a very comfortable average household income.” Those shoppers will find “Carson's price points very comfortable,” he predicted.

Marshall Field's left in May 2005, Ford said. The space it vacated has had some short-term tenants, mainly community causes, such as “Holiday Houses for Habitat,” which is in that space now. Ford said Carson's will take possession of the space in February and plans a complete remodeling before its fall opening.

The nearest Carson's stores are in Warsaw and Marion, according to the company's website.

Glenbrook Square has more than 150 stores and restaurants, including Macy's, Sears, J.C. Penney, Banana Republic, Pandora, Coach and Granite City. It is more than 90 percent occupied, Ford said, although some of the tenants are seasonal occupants.

Carson's is one of the brands operated by the Bon-Ton Stores. That group operates 273 stores, including 11 furniture galleries, in 24 states in the Northeast, Midwest and upper Great Plains under the Bon-Ton, Bergner's, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger's and Younkers nameplates and, in the Detroit area, under the Parisian nameplate.
