Man reports being shot in car
A 24-year-old Fort Wayne man was shot in the back early Tuesday morning, according to a Fort Wayne Police report.
The victim was driven by a friend to St. Joseph Hospital, where police were called shortly after 5 a.m.
The victim, who was able to be interviewed by police, said that a man approached the rear of the car he was driving while he was parked near Rudisill Boulevard and Calhoun Street, according to the report.
The man tried to open the victim’s car’s rear door, and the victim sped away.
He thought the man had thrown a rock at his car, then realized he had been shot.
The victim returned home and had a friend take him to the hospital.
Locked cash drawer foils would-be robbers
A robbery at Kroger, 218 E. Pettit Ave., failed late Monday when the would-be robbers were thwarted by a locked cash drawer, according to a Fort Wayne Police report.
Police who responded to a call from the store at about 10:20 p.m. learned that two men approached the cashier running the self-check-out lanes at the store and passed her a note asking for all the money, according to the report. She said the cash drawer was locked and she would have to get a manager to unlock it.
The men left the store.
Police allege cellphone had molestation images
A Fort Wayne man has been charged with child molesting after police said they found photos of the molestation on his cell phones.
Raymond L. Ybarra Jr., 38, of the 2300 block of Dale Road, faces charges of child molesting, a Class A felony, and child molesting, a Class C felony. According to court documents, police say Ybarra had sexual contact with a girl, now 9 years old, on Dec. 3 or 4, 2011, according to the report .
Ybarra was being questioned by police on an unrelated matter when they found suspicious photos on his cell phone and obtained a search warrant for his home, according to the report.
There, they found two other cell phones, police said in court documents, which contained photos of the alleged molestation.
Molestation of two girls alleged
A man now being held in the Huntington County Jail faces nine counts of child molesting and sexual misconduct with a minor.
Police say Jim A. Craig Jr., 40, molested two girls, one age 14 and the other younger than 14, in 2010 and 2011, according to a probable-cause affidavit.
The alleged sex crimes took place in Allen County, according to court filings.
Four of the charges involve the younger alleged victim. Three of those charges are child molesting, a Class A felony; the fourth is a Class C felony.
The five charges involving the alleged victim who was 14 are sexual misconduct with a minor, including four Class B felonies and one Class C felony.
