Just in time for snow, county has 10 new trucks

Wednesday, December 19, 2012 - 7:16 am

Allen County Highway Department employee Fred Kemnitz cleans one of 10 new trucks to be unveiled Wednesday at the department's south barn at 8317 E. Tillman Road. The County Commissioners in January agreed to spend $1.15 million on the trucks, making it the single largest vehicle purchase in county history.

Wider plows will allow the new trucks to clear more snow in less time than older models, and their stainless steel beds are expected to last about 25 years instead of the previous 10. The department bought the trucks with an interest-free loan from the county's rainy day fund.
