Wednesday, December 19, 2012 - 5:12 am

The Saint Francis women's basketball team improved its record to 12-0 on Tuesday with a 78-67 road win over Indiana Tech.

This is the best start in school history for the women's basketball program. The 1999-2000 team started 11-0 and eventually finished runner-up in the NAIA Division II National Championship tournament.

Saint Francis started taking command of the game in the second half. The Cougars took the lead 48-47 on a basket by Brooke Ridley with 14:50 to play, and they never trailed again. A few minutes later they went on an 8-0 run to take a 61-51 lead with 11:14 remaining. USF was able to keep extending the lead and led 78-63 with 1:43 left.

Meghan Slusher led the Cougars while matching a career-high with 21 points. Ridley had her first career double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Also scoring in double figures for Saint Francis were Kayla Drake with 13 and Skylarr Shura and Jenelle Wilson with 10 each.

Indiana Tech was led by Rachael Kruse with 23 points. She was followed by Ulyssia Richmond with 19 and Chelsea Carradine with 12.

The Warriors fell to 3-10 for the season.
