Saturday at C2G Music Hall, singers will get you in the spirit

Thursday, December 20, 2012 12:01 am
As holiday events wind down, you still can enjoy one more Christmas concert Saturday at C2G Music Hall when five local singers/groups get together to perform for the community.Mike Conley, who organized the concert, said he will start the event with his stripped-down acoustic music.

Others on the schedule include Hannah Bushong performing jazzy renditions, Unlikely Alibi performing ska reggae, The Freak Brothers performing funk and Sunny Taylor Berry, whose musical style Conley could only describe as “Sunny.”

Conley said he's excited to have well-established local bands get together for “getting into the Christmas spirit for us and the community.”

“It's a gift from the musicians,” said the Rev. Mark Minnick, senior pastor of Come2Go Ministries, which shares the building with C2G Music Hall. “It's family-oriented, and a way to celebrate with Christmas music they don't usually get to perform.”

Conley said he will perform songs from his Christmas album, which was released several years ago. “Every year, it's still good. It's timeless. That's why I did a Christmas album.”

Conley also said it should be interesting to see Christmas renditions by the other bands. Everyone will do half-hour sets.

The music hall seats 200-400 people, Minnick said. Religious and secular music acts bring 50-80 concerts yearly to the venue.

Minnick said the concert is a way to support the local music scene and, with people asked to bring a canned-food item to accompany their $5 admission, the event also supports charity at the same time.

“Everyone's pretty pumped about it,” he said. “Good friends getting together. It's part of what makes Fort Wayne cool.”
