Turns out a dentist really is a “physician” after all.
Reversing an earlier decision, Allen County Council Thursday agreed to pay Coroner-elect Craig Nelson $45,800 when he takes office next year -- $15,000 more than they had originally planned. In October the Council decided that state law required non-physicians to earn $30,500, but a subsequent legal review discovered Indiana Attorneys General opinions from the 1960s indicating that dentists, chiropractors and others should also be considered physicians.
A previous coroner, Phillip O'Shaughnessy, was also a dentist and earned the higher rate.
