Four employees of a Fort Wayne post office were rescued by police Wednesday afternoon after hiding from a pair of armed robbers.
Fort Wayne Police responded just after 3:30 p.m. to the U.S. Post Office-Diplomat Station, 4171 Hessen Cassel Road, after an employee called 911 and said that she and her coworkers had retreated to a safe place inside the office after two masked men with guns came into the office, police said in a statement.
Police formed a perimeter around the post office and called for city SWAT teams, which entered the building and rescued the four employees, police spokeswoman Officer Raquel Foster said in the statement. Another person who was inside the office also surrendered to police, identifying herself as a customer, Foster said.
The robbers were not inside the office and remain at large, Foster said. Police did not disclose how much, if any, cash the men took. No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported, the statement said.
The robbery remains under investigation by Fort Wayne Police and the U.S. Postal Inspector's office.
