Indiana Tech wrestling program adds another

Harris is one of the better competitors in Ohio

Thursday, December 20, 2012 - 12:01 am

The Indiana Tech wrestling program got a bit stronger on Wednesday, as coach Mike Ester landed another talented student-athlete from Ohio.

Urbana High School senior Sam Harris signed his letter of intent to join the Warrior program.

"Sam fits the mold of the type of guy we want to represent this program,” coach Mike Ester said in a release. "He is a phenomenal student and is a tremendous leader. Sam has the potential to make an immediate impact on the mat for us and is projected to wrestle 197 pounds for us."

During his impressive career at Urbana, Harris was a district qualifier at 160 pounds as a freshman and a state alternate at 189 pounds as a sophomore.

“I think Indiana Tech will help me pursue my goal of becoming a multiple-time NAIA All-American," Harris said. "I'm very excited to help in the development of this up and coming team.”

Harris surpassed the 100 win mark in his junior season and finished in fourth place in the Ohio State Tournament. Now in the middle of his senior campaign, Harris is working hard to make a push to become the state champion.
