Ligonier Police officers charged a man after a woman was reportedly beaten Monday evening.
At 6:49 p.m., Ligonier officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East Union St., in Ligonier on a battery complaint. Officers were allegedly told that a female victim was struck several times by her boyfriend, later identified as Michael Strammer, 50, and dragged by him into the home, according to a Ligonier Police news release.
Police tried unsuccessfully to contact the home's occupants by knocking on the door as using a public-address system to get them to come of the home. Officers then requested assistance from the Noble County Special Operations Group. A crisis negotiator talked to Strammer by phone. After several minutes on the telephone, the victim was allowed to leave and Strammer soon came outside and was taken into custody without incident at 9:38 p.m.
There were no reported injuries and the investigation is ongoing, according to the release.
Strammer was jailed on a preliminary charge of domestic battery and resisting law enforcement.
The Ligonier Fire Department, Noble County EMS, Noble County Special Operations Group, and Indiana State Police assisted.
