PERU — A businessman has opened an events center in a former military facility near Grissom Air Reserve Base in northern Indiana. The opening of the Milestone Event Center is the first phase of Ken Licklider's plans for the four dormitories and former dining hall that he bought this year at the former Air Force base near Peru.

Licklider is owner of the Vohne Liche (von lick) Kennels police dog training site in nearby Denver. The Kokomo Tribune reports the buildings had been vacant for three years before he bought them from the Miami County Economic Development Authority.

The events center will host receptions, parties and meetings.

Licklider says he's spent $500,000 on renovations, including turning two of the dormitories into housing for dog trainers visiting his kennel.
