Doctors have found cancer in the brain and lung in the Rev. John M. D'Arcy, Bishop Emeritus, the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend issued in a statement this morning.
D'Arcy released a statement that he consulted a doctor after Christmas, and went to Saint Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton, Mass., where doctors found cancer in his brain and lung.
D'Arcy will begin radiation treatment in Brighton, where he grew up.
"It is my hope to keep all the commitments I have made to the parish missions and Confirmations. Of course, that will depend on the advice of my doctors," D'Arcy said in a prepared statement.
Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades also released a written statement. "I ask that Bishop D'Arcy be especially remembered in prayer at Masses throughout the diocese. I invite the faithful of our diocese to pray for Bishop D'Arcy as he undergoes treatment for the cancer," he said.
