Kellogg Community College infielder Jon Timmerman recently committed to play baseball for IPFW beginning in the fall of 2013.

“Jon is a tough-nosed, blue-collar player that has impacted our program greatly,” KCC baseball coach Eric Laskovy said in a release. "I am happy to see him return home to continue his career at IPFW and be an immediate contributor.”

The Carroll High School graduate is one of five KCC sophomore baseball players who have committed to play for Division I schools during the 2013-14 season, continuing what Laskovy called a strong tradition of moving players along to quality four-year institutions.

“We expect several more Bruins in this sophomore class to follow suit this spring,” he said.

KCC's baseball team finished the fall semester with success off the field as well as on, with a team-average GPA of 3.26. KCC Athletic Director Tom Shaw said that ranks the Bruins at the top of the field in the National Junior College Athletic Association in terms of academics.

“We have a rare combination of talent on the field and in the classroom,” Shaw said. “It's off the charts, and it keeps getting better.”
