Russell was first rookie to start at cornerback in school history

KeiVarae Russell had a lot of expectations put on his shoulders from the first time that he went onto the football field at Notre Dame.Due to injuries, the true freshman was placed into the starting line-up at cornerback immediately, which was a feat that no other player in program history had ever done.
Notre Dame defensive assistant coach Kerry Cooks spoke about the confidence and work ethic that Russell needed to survive this fall.
