Fort Wayne-area police brief

Gunman reportedly steals 'spice' from Angola store

Angola police were searching for a gunman who robbed a store of a substance used by some as synthetic marijuana.

Police were called at 9:02 p.m. Friday to Little Hippie. They were told a man walked into the store, displayed a silver-colored semi-automatic handgun and demanded that the clerk fill a blue-colored bag with "spice" products, according to a police news release.

A police K-9 tracked the robber to a bridge, where he likely got into a vehicle and left westbound on Harcourt toward Wayne Street.

Police describe the robber as over 6 feet with a medium build. He was wearing blue jeans, a dark-colored coat with a greenish hood sweatshirt, a face mask and sunglasses.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Angola City Police Department at 1-260-665-2121 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-600-4258.

Angola police were assisted by the Indiana State Police, Steuben County Sheriff's Department and Indiana conservation officers.

In March, Gov. Mitch Daniels signed into law a ban on synthetic drugs. Under the ban, retailers could lose their business licenses for a year if they're caught selling the synthetic drugs.
