Back-to-back wins over Santa Cruz sends big message

Monday, January 7, 2013 - 8:15 am

The Mad Ants won their fourth straight game with a major demonstration of a team effort.

Seven Ants scored in double figures as Fort Wayne beat Santa Cruz 118-90 on Saturday at Memorial Coliseum. It was the Ants (7-10) second straight win over the Warriors (9-4) who came to town with the NBA Development League's best record.

Tony Mitchell scored 21 points, Sadiel Rojas came off the bench to score 20 and Indiana Pacers rookie Miles Plumlee pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the Mad Ants. Darryl Partin added 18 points and Ron Howard led the team with seven assists.

The Ants were playing without Luke Harangody, who was inactive with a sore knee, and Orlando Johnson, who returned to the Pacers.

Santa Cruz was led by Travis Leslie with 17 points.

Fort Wayne will play in the D-League Showcase next week, facing Rio Grande Valley at 1 p.m. Wednesday and Tulsa at 1 p.m. Thursday in Reno, Nev. Both games will be televised on NBA TV.
