Huntington University junior forward Shane Merryman recently reached a milestone in his athletic career with the Forester men's basketball program.
The Carroll High School graduate became the 43rd player to join Huntington’s 1,000-point club. Merryman did so in a recent game with Mount Vernon Nazarene.
The accomplishment was the first for a Merryman with the Foresters. Shane's grandfather, Dean Merryman, who excelled at Huntington from 1958 to 1962, also reached the milestone and finished with 1,855 career points. That total places the elder Merryman in eighth on the all-time scoring list at the university.
Shane has accumulated 1,021 points in 79 games, for a career average of 12.9 points per contest.
Through 17 games this season, he is ranked 11th in NAIA Division II in scoring (21.65) and second in field goal percentage (.656). He also pulls down a team-high 6.4 boards every night.
