Though the 2012 college football bowl season ended just days ago, it is never to early to begin looking forward to the 2013 season, and with the positive momentum that Ball State gained this season, the Cardinals are ready for the fall.
Ball State announced its 2013 Mid-American Conference opponents on Thursday.
“We are looking forward to another challenging lineup of MAC East Division opponents in next year’s crossover games,” third-year Ball State coach Pete Lembo said in a release.
The Cardinals will host MAC opponents Central Michigan, Toledo, Kent State and Miami University at Schuemann Stadium.
“Kent State had a terrific year in 2012 and many of their top players return,” Lembo said. “We are excited to welcome Miami University to Scheumann Stadium. I enjoyed learning about the rivalry between our schools last year and it is great to be playing the RedHawks again.”
The Cardinals will travel to Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Akron in league play.
“Akron has made a major commitment to its program and I am sure they will be much improved in 2013,” Lembo said.
The dates and times for the conference games will be set later, but the Cardinals do have their non-league schedule set.
Ball State will open the season by hosting Illinois State on Aug. 29, with a home game against Army on Sept. 7.
It will then travel to North Texas (Sept. 14) and later in the year visit Virginia (Oct. 5).
The Cardinals are coming off of a 9-4 season in which they earned a bid to the Beef O’Brady’s Bowl in St. Petersburg, Fla.
