PRINCETON — Conservation officers say a mature bald eagle has been found dead from possible electrocution in southwestern Indiana's Gibson County.

They said Thursday a highway worker found the dead eagle Wednesday directly under power lines. They say an X-ray of the raptor found no metal projectiles inside it.

They say another bald eagle was found in nearly Posey County several years ago directly under power lines. An examination of that bird by Fish and Wildlife Officials listed the cause of death as contact with power lines, or electrocution.

They say the large wingspan of the eagles and similar birds of prey leaves them more vulnerable to electrocution than other birds..
