Friday night shooting results in Allen County's first homicide of 2013

Saturday, January 12, 2013 - 5:09 pm

A shooting on Friday night has turned into Allen County's first homicide of 2013.

According to a news release from the Allen County Coroner's office, 45-year-old Ryan D. Turner died as a result of a gunshot wound -- the coroner's office does not specify how many times a person was shot -- sustained prior to being transported to a local hospital Friday evening.

Turner was shot sometime around 9:01 p.m., according to an earlier news release from the Fort Wayne Police Department. Officers responded to a gas station at 624 E. Lewis St. in order to investigate a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found a man, Turner, inside the store. He had apparently been shot.

Paramedics originally judged Turner to be in serious condition and transported him to a local hospital. He was downgraded to critical condition at the hospital, the release said.

Preliminary investigation indicated Turner entered the gas station, stated that he had been shot, and asked the attendant to summon the police, the release said. No arrests have been made and no information on possible suspects has been released.

The death has been ruled a homicide, the first in Allen County of the new year. The incident remains under investigation by the police department and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
