GOSHEN — A county council in northern Indiana that inadvertently gave its seven elected members a pay raise has nullified that raise more than three months later.

Members of the Elkhart County Council subtracted about $5,200 from their budget Saturday that would have gone toward the pay increases. The Elkhart Truth reports that the council voted in October to include the money in their spending plan for this year.

Council president John Letherman said at the time that the salary increase of $752 per council member was an "oversight." But he recently said that a pay raise in the future is not out of the question.

The council's recording secretary, Audie Hostetler, says the base pay for council members is $13,108, plus compensation for additional duties.
