LOS ANGELES — Bob Barker has given away a boatload of cash to save animals. For a second time, the cash also will buy the boat.

Ocean Defender's Alliance asked Barker for $125,000 for a new boat. After looking at the work ODA has done with volunteers over the past decade, Barker says he gave the group $150,000 so they would have enough.

ODA removes ghost gear from the ocean floor — lost and abandoned traps, nets and lines.

Around the world, the 89-year-old Barker says ghost gear annually kills hundreds of thousands of animals, pollutes water, threatens kelp beds and is a hazard to boaters, surfers and divers.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society used part of a $5 million donation from Barker in 2010 to acquire 1,200-ton anti-whaling vessel.
