A string of robberies at Fort Wayne apartment complexes continued Tuesday morning with two more incidents, including one attempt in which the victim is reportedly in serious condition after possibly being stabbed. At around 10:12 a.m. a woman reported to Fort Wayne Police that she was returning to Gardenview Apartments in the 5400 block of North Clinton Street from walking her dog when she was attacked inside her apartment building by a man. When she did not immediately comply with his demands, he struck her several times in the face, according to FWPD spokeswoman Raquel Foster.

Because the victim was aware of several previously reported similar incidents in apartment complexes, she had a knife nearby for protection, Foster said. During the attack, the man grabbed the weapon and stabbed the victim.

The woman suffered what appeared to be a stab wound and was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. The man reportedly didn't take anything.

In the other case Tuesday, at 12:06 a.m. a woman was getting out of her vehicle at Canterbury Green Apartments in the 5200 block of Stonehedge Boulevard when a person grabbed her purse, according to police. Because the purse strap was wrapped around her neck the would-be robber couldn't take it. The victim reported that the perpetrator slammed her against a tree before running off, according to police.

Since Jan. 7, Fort Wayne Police have responded to a string of robberies or attempted robberies at apartment complexes, almost all of them in the evening when it's dark as residents get out of their vehicles or approach their apartment buildings. The apartment complexes involved so far have been Canterbury Green, Autumn Creek, Gardenview, Colony Bay and Cambridge Square. Most have involved men holding the victims at gunpoint.
