State, county police end chase of Mustang in Fort Wayne

A driver who took off in a black-and-gray Mustang convertible led police from two counties on a pursuit Tuesday afternoon, but officers broke off the chase once the vehicle headed into Fort Wayne.DeKalb County officers requested assistance in stopping the Mustang as it came southbound on Coldwater Road into Allen County from North County Line Road in DeKalb at 1:55 p.m., according to scanner traffic. The driver, who might be mentally challenged, wasn't authorized to drive the vehicle, according to scanner traffic.

Several officers pursued the vehicle, but the Indiana State Police and the remaining departments called off the chase once the Mustang headed toward the busy intersection with Dupont Road at 2:05 p.m.

Officers were searching nearby housing additions for the vehicle. They later found the Mustang and were calling the driver's parents in Garrett to get their vehicle. Their son was facing a possession of a stolen vehicle charge, according to scanner traffic.
