Obama's re-election is warning that God's justice cannot sleep forever

Wednesday, January 16, 2013 - 12:01 am

The re-election of Barak Obama as president demonstrates a profound ignorance of and/or disrespect for the principles on which our nation was founded. We now have an electorate, primarily encompassing our urban centers, that believe they are entitled to that which someone else has earned, either through their hard work and long hours or their entrepreneurial skills. This in no way reflects the founding principles of this nation.

The ruggedness and self-reliant nature of our founders demonstrates a depth of character that we are seeing disappear in America today. Rather, today, many believe they are entitled to the wealth earned by others who were willing to put in the long hours and exercise the skill necessary to earn it.

When President Obama talks about everyone paying their “fair share,” he is talking Marxism, i.e., socialism. Consider the results of socialism? Look at the legacy of the former USSR and their communistic brand of socialism. Look at Nazi Germany and their fascistic brand of socialism. Look at Greece, Spain, France, etc. and their democratic socialism in Europe.

Take stock of their economies, and see where socialism has brought them. They have unemployment rates higher than ours. They also have a disconcerting social unrest, which has them bordering on anarchy. The entitlement mentality has become so totally ingrained in the mindset of so many of their citizens that they believe that the “nanny government” has become their normative. This socialism, redistributing wealth from those who produce it to those lacking the motivation or the ability to do so, as Margaret Thatcher once said, “Will only last until they run out of other peoples’ money.”

“Obamanomics” will considerably lessen the incentive of those with the skills and the genius to create more jobs. “Obamanomics” will effectively put a muzzle on free enterprise. If entrepreneurs are not going to be able to reap the benefits of their hard work and entrepreneurial genius, why should they put forth the effort?

“Obamacare,” while threatening our economy, is also threatening the quality of our health care system. As an example of the dictatorial control written into “Obamacare,” hospitals like Dupont Hospital would not be allowed to be built. It is a doctor-owned hospital constructed by doctors, with the comfort and service of patients as its main focus. In addition, since “Obamacare” is now the law of the land, Dupont would have to get federal permission to expand any further. This is just the tip the iceberg.

With Medicare reimbursements to doctors being reduced as a result of “Obamacare,” more doctors will refuse to treat Medicare patients. Doctors are already losing money on Medicare and Medicaid patients. Why should they be expected to shoulder an even greater loss?

Here in Indiana, ramifications will be felt deeply in Warsaw. The artificial joint manufacturers, after paying a huge corporate tax rate on their revenues, will be faced with an additional 2.3 percent tax on gross revenues. This could well drive them out business or out of the country.

President Obama’s energy policy is disastrous as well. Immediately after the election, Obama’s interior department put 1.6 million more acres in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah off limits for oil drilling. Pray tell, why didn’t they do it before the election? The answer to that question is a no-brainer. It is just one more thing that would have contributed to costing him re-election.

His claims that we have produced more oil under his presidency are disingenuous. The oil that has been produced has been produced in spite of his policies. The oil produced during the last four years has been produced on private land. The production on government land has been drastically curtailed under Obama’s presidency.

His push for green energy has resulted in the taxpayers being left holding the bag for several billions of dollars, through the failure of Obama’s campaign contributor Solyndra, and other failed green enterprises.

Even as I write this column, the EPA is readying more regulations on the coal mining industry, which still provides the majority of our electricity. Clean coal technology has come a long way. It has improved considerably, but, as President Obama said a number of years ago, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket under his policy. He wants to see the coal industry shut down. This would also have a devastating impact on the railroads, which own their own mines and make some of their highest profits on them.

Nor has our Constitution been spared. Obama’s assault on the First Amendment freedom of religion clause has been launched as a result of his attempting to force the Catholic Church to fund things that are morally repugnant to them in the “Obamacare” law.

Again, after the election the Obama administration announced their support for the “Small Arms Treaty” being discussed at the U.N. It would have a disastrous impact on our Second Amendment rights under the Constitution.

My biggest concern is that for the first time in American history, we will be bequeathing to our posterity a lower standard of living than we had.

Another slap in the face from President Obama was that he pushed gay marriage while his AG Eric Holder refused to do his sworn constitutional duty and defend the “Defense of Marriage Act.” This alone is an impeachable offense.

Billy Graham’s wife, Ruth Bell Graham, said a number of years ago: “If God does not judge the United States of America, He is going to have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.”

I believe that President Obama’s election in 2008 was a warning to America. I believe that his re-election may well be the beginning of God’s judgment on our sinful nation.

Thomas Jefferson’s words on his memorial are worthy of contemplation. He said: “God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.”
