According to information released earlier by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Chevrolet Impala that Goodmann was driving struck a vehicle, then rear-ended a semi-truck.
Fort Wayne Police were called at 7:54 a.m. to Coliseum Boulevard East at Crescent Avenue to a report of a personal-injury accident, with the driver reportedly unconscious. The man, Goodmann, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Goodmann's Impala was traveling eastbound on Coliseum. It reportedly appeared to be trying to change lanes while approaching the intersection at Crescent, according to the police department. Witnesses told police that the Impala clipped the side-view mirror of a white Pontiac before rear-ending a semi-truck that was stopped at the intersection.
The force of the impact between the Impala and the semi-truck pushed the semi about two feet forward. The Impala bounced back and came to rest across two lanes on Coliseum. There were no other injuries reported at the scene.
Eastbound traffic on Coliseum from North Anthony Boulevard to Crescent remained closed at 10 a.m. while the F.A.C.T. (Fatal Alcohol Crash Team) investigated.
The crash remains under investigation by the FWPD, the Allen County prosecutor's office, and the coroner's office.
