Thursday, January 17, 2013 - 2:56 pm

Indiana Tech rallied against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference foe Madonna University on Wednesday at the Schaefer Center.

The Warriors topped the Crusaders 79-70 to earn a season sweep.

Indiana Tech juniors Rachael Kruse and Ulyssia Richmond combined for 50 points in the win, which snapped a two-game skid.

The game started going back and forth as the two teams traded leads eight times over the first 13 minutes. Indiana Tech's Chelsea Carradine propelled the Warriors to an 8-0 run with five points putting her team in front 33-25. Madonna would trim the deficit to just four though to trail 36-32 at halftime.

The Warriors came out of the locker room on fire hitting four three-pointers to begin the half and would jump ahead 48-38.

The Crusaders didn’t back down though and came back to retake the lead 55-54 midway through the period.

Trailing 60-56, Preonda Reese sparked a Warrior comeback with a big three from the corner. The bucket started a streak of eight unanswered points which gave Tech a lead they would not surrender.

With the Crusaders clawing their way back into the game, Richmond converted an old-fashioned three point play to keep Indiana Tech ahead by five, 71-66, with just over a minute remaining.

Following a pair of Madonna free throws, Kruse hit a clutch jumper in the paint and after a defensive stop, Carradine knocked down two shots from the charity stripe to help seal the win.

The Warriors held Madonna to just 3-for-18 shooting from three-point range while connecting on 8-of-20 themselves. Indiana Tech also had a big advantage on the glass, pulling down 46 compared to Madonna's 28.

Kruse finished with a game-high 28 points and Richmond, who is closing in on the 1,000 career point plateau, added 22.

Carradine notched her fourth double-double of the season hauling in 13 boards to go along with 11 points while Kaneisha Bass (Detroit, MI/Lincoln Trail) also chipped in 11 points.

Indiana Tech will travel to Lawrence Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m.
