Saturday, January 19, 2013 - 5:39 am

The IPFW men's volleyball team came alive on offense at just the right time and picked up its second victory of the season.

IPFW had a match-best .421 attack percentage and never trailed in the decisive fifth game as it defeated Sacred Heart 25-18, 20-25, 25-21, 16-25, 15-10 on Friday in Fairfield, Conn.

Middle attacker Bryan Saunders in the victory led IPFW (2-1, 0-0 MIVA) with 11 kills and a .579 attack percentage. In addition, the sophomore had a match-high five blocks in the non-conference match.

Saunders was one of three Mastodons to finish the match with double-digit kills. Middle attacker Ramon Burgos had 11 kills, while outside attacker Kevin Vilela came off the bench and added 10 kills.

Sacred Heart outside attacker Bradley Borsay in the loss finished with a match-high 16 kills.

Despite IPFW getting the non-conference victory, Sacred Heart out-hit IPFW .283 to .266. However, the Pioneers had a season-high 22 service errors against the Mastodons.

IPFW setter Omar Rivera led all players defensively with a career-high 11 digs.

This match was the first time that IPFW and Sacred Heart (0-2, 0-0 EIVA) have played each other in their programs' histories.

With the victory, the Mastodons are on a two-match winning streak following their season-opening loss last week. IPFW will conclude its East Coast road trip as it plays the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. Saturday in Newark, N.J.
