•Bishop Luers High School Show Choir, Minstrels, earned Grand Champion at the Twin Lakes Show Choir Invitational in Monticello. The Minstrels also received Best Band, Best Visuals and Best Vocals in the Invitational. Hudson Fairchild, freshman, was recognized as Dynamic Performer. Anna Stachofsky, junior, and Stephen Stachofsky, Senior, were recognized as Best Female and Male Vocalist in a Show, respectively. •The Fifth-Grade Scholar Challenge takes place 8:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Feb. 9 at Canterbury Middle School, 5601 Covington Road. As many as eight $6,000 scholarships toward Canterbury Middle School tuition will be awarded ($2,000 for each year of Middle School for Grades 6-8). Awards will be based on standardized testing, an essay, school transcripts and a personal interview. •Canterbury Middle School eighth-grader Bo Geyer (trumpet) has been selected to participate in the IPFW Middle School Honor Band. Canterbury High School freshmen Austin Ash (trumpet) and Jake Allan (percussion), and sophomore Riley Killen (baritone) have been selected to participate in the IPFW High School Honor Band. The concert takes place at 1 p.m. Saturday at IPFW's Auer Hall. Admission is free.
•Fort Wayne Community Schools will offer Driver Education March 4-April 30 at Anthis Career Center, 1200 S. Barr St. Classes will be offered from 4:15-6:15 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday. The courses are open to any student, whether they attend FWCS or not, who is at least 15 years old before the session begins. The student also must be currently enrolled and in good standing with a high school. The State of Indiana requires perfect attendance to receive Driver Education Certification; therefore, students with conflicts during class hours, such as extracurricular activities or jobs, should not enroll. Students can enroll in classroom only instruction, which is $85, driving instruction and road test, which is $310, or both for $395. A deposit of $197.50 is required for registration with the other payment due before completion of program. All classes are taught by professional educators. •Heritage High School FFA and Woodlan High School FFA each were selected as winners through the Monsanto Fund's America's Farmers Grow Communities and received $2,500 apiece to direct to their favorite nonprofits in their communities.
•Northwest Allen County Schools will hold kindergarten round-up at 6 p.m. March 19 at Arcola, Cedar Canyon, Hickory Center, Huntertown, Oak View, Perry Hill and Eel River elementary schools. Children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1. Bring county birth certificate, immunization record, utility bill and any legal/custody papers pertaining to the child.
