Faith briefs: Spud Sunday coming at Calvary UMC; 'Mosaic of Faith' series to start at Grace Episcopal

CALVARY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 6301 Winchester Road, will hold Spud Sunday 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Feb. 10. Cost is $6. Bring a canned-food item and enjoy a free dessert. 747-9218.CONCORDIA THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY, 6600 N. Clinton St., will hold Symposia Choral Vespers at 5 p.m. today in Kramer Chapel. Symposa Vespers and organ recital is at 4 p.m. Thursday in Kramer Chapel. Bill Hecht will hold a book-signing for “Two Wars We Must Not Lose” and give a lecture about “The Christian Challenge in the Public Square: A Lutheran Voice” Thursday.EPWORTH UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 105 W. 8th St., Matthews, will hold Balloonapalooza! at 5 p.m. Feb. 2. The LeFevre Quartet will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday; free admission.

FIRST MENNONITE CHURCH, Berne, will hold rehearsals for its spring concert at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 5-April 30. Dress rehearsal is May 4 with the concert May 5.

GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 10010 Aurora Place, will hold “A Mosaic of Faith” series at 7 p.m. Feb 5, 19, 26 and April 2, 9 and 16. February sessions led by the Rev. Kathy Thomas of Grace will focus on Christianity, and the April sessions exploring Buddhism will be led by Michael Spath, professor of comparative religions. Child care is provided.

INDIANA CENTER FOR MIDDLE EAST PEACE will have Louise Pascale, author of “The Afghan Children's Songbook Project,” speak at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Allen County Public Library, 900 Library Plaza.

SHEPHERD OF THE CITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1301 S. Anthony Blvd., will hold its fifth annual hymnfest at 4 p.m. Feb. 3. Guest organist is Kantor Kevin Hildebrand of Concordia Theological Seminary. A seminar on demonology, the study of the devil and his nature as taught in the Christian Bible, takes place Feb. 16, with a morning session 10 a.m.-noon and an afternoon session 1-3 p.m. Free admission and complimentary lunch offered.
