Ice on Fort Wayne park ponds still too thin for skating

Thursday, January 24, 2013 - 12:11 pm

The skating ponds at Lakeside and Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir parks will be closed through this weekend. The ice is weak and won't hold the weight of skaters, according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department.

Cold temperatures and high winds have produced a thin, smooth ice cover on both ponds, but cracking is appearing away from the edges, according to the release.

Red lights and flags will be displayed while the ponds remain unsafe for skating.
