“Derby, Baby!” was created by Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Robin Bond and Dave Wruck. The film looks at the drama, friendships and addictive nature of the women's flat-track roller derby, including bout footage of international champions, a Derby Girls news release said.
Along with bouts against other teams, the Fort Wayne Derby Girls — a nonprofit and volunteer-operated organization — have raised more than $110,000 for local women's and children's charities since October 2005, the news release said.The Hearth at Sycamore Village senior living community will be featured on the “In View” program hosted by Larry King at 7 a.m. Monday on the Discovery Channel, a news release said.
The coverage will include residents, families and employees from The Hearth at Sycamore Village as King looks at Hearth Senior Living company's “Live More” philosophy, the news release said.
Hearth Management owns and operates senior living communities in New York, Connecticut, Indiana and Tennessee.Black Pine Animal Sanctuary will host its sixth annual Cats 'n' Cocoa event 1-4 p.m. Feb. 9 at the sanctuary, 1426 W. Road 300N near Albion.
A bonfire and hot cocoa will be provided. Animal keepers will be available to offer visitors a close-up look at the animals and answer questions. All proceeds help fund the winter care of the animals.
Visitors can warm up at the bonfire and in the climate-controlled reptile house, but most events will take place outdoors, so winter clothing and footwear is recommended.
Admission is $7 for ages 3-9 and $8 for ages 10 and older. No reservations are needed. Donations of items on Black Pine's wish list, which is on the sanctuary's website at www.blackpine.org, will be accepted in lieu of event admission fees when given in equal or greater value, the news release said.
Weather-related problems that may postpone or cancel this event will be announced by a voicemail message at 1-260-636-7383, on Black Pine's website and posted on the organization's Facebook page.
