Briefs: 1913 flood memories, photos wanted; toboggan webcam; Arthritis Walk party

This March marks the 100th anniversary of the Flood of 1913, which swamped Fort Wayne and much of the Midwest, leaving hundreds dead nationally and massive damage. Do you have any stories, photos or artifacts relating to a family member who was affected by the flood or came to the aid of others impacted by it?

Share your story by sending it to us in 200 words or fewer, along with any photos, by March 1 to features@news-sentinel.com, with Flood of 1913 submissions in the subject line. For any questions, call 461-8290.Now you can watch the toboggan run at Pokagon State Park, Angola, on a computer or hand-held device. A live webcam offers a real-time view of the toboggan run from a tower overlooking its twin tracks. The webcam is at www.tobogganrun.com. The toboggan run is refrigerated and open all winter weekends until Feb. 24. It can operate when there is no snow on the ground and temperatures are above freezing. To see riders racing down the toboggan run, view the webcam during the toboggan run's operating hours: 5-10 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays.The Arthritis Walk Kick-Off & Kids Get Arthritis Too, Party! is 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at Sweetwater Sound, 5501 U.S. 30 W. Reservations: Marcy Hawkins at 755-6282 or mhawkins@arthritis.org by Wednesday. Get a jump start on registration and information for the May 4 Arthritis Walk. The evening includes food and door prizes as participants gear up for this year's Arthritis Walk. Everyone who registers during this event gets a free gift. If you've already registered, there will be a gift for you, too. Attendees can pick up their fundraising supplies, ask questions and meet other walkers. New this year at the event is the Kids Get Arthritis, Too fun night. Kids with arthritis and their families are invited to participate in activities, and to learn more about the programs and services available to them through the Arthritis Foundation.Charley Creek Inn, a renovated boutique hotel in Wabash, recently received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award. The award, which honors hospitality excellence, is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor. The 1920s hotel, which underwent a two-year restoration, in 2011 received the Cook Cup — Indiana's highest award for historic preservation.The Fort Wayne Medical Society Foundation, Lutheran Health Network and Parkview Health will sponsor the 18th annual Doctor's Day 10 a.m.-3 p.m. March 2 at Science Central, 1950 N. Clinton St. Admission is free until 2 p.m.
