Komet center 'sick and tired' of losing

Sunday, February 03, 2013 12:01 am
After being one of the most-vocal players in a post-game team meeting after Friday's loss to Kalamazoo, Komets center Brett Smith had a goal, an assist, a fight and earned 17 penalty minutes in Saturday's 7-2 win over Cincinnati.I'm just sick and tired of losing at home, losing in general, losing wherever and the inconsistency. I was just trying to get out there and send a message and lead these guys by example. There were a lot of guys that did it, but I felt good, I was finishing hits and getting the emotion going. It was fun.It definitely helped. We were embarrassed last night with what happened. It wasn't anything we haven't said before, but it was nice to see that it sunk in a little bit and it was nice to see that big effort tonight.Absolutely. When you give a goalie some help, and he's making some saves he's going to have some confidence. He was as prepared as anybody, and he wanted this win as bad as the rest of us. I was impressed. He's a great guy and a great teammate to have around. There definitely was. That's what we need to do. We watched it last night be used against us. When we do that, we're successful, and we found a way. Guys are crashing and banging and going to the front of the net, good things happen. It's definitely nice to win here in front of a big crowd on a Saturday night, but we have to remember, it's just one game. We've got 12 more at home, and we have to find a way to be consistent. That's what we're going to be preaching the rest of the way.
