Halftime adjustments paid off in second half

Wednesday, February 6, 2013 - 3:47 am

Concordia Lutheran coach David Miller spoke with The News-Sentinel following the Cadets 58-41 victory over Leo on Tuesday in the opening round of the IHSAA Class 3A girl's basketball sectional.

On junior Courtney Smith:

Courtney has such a burning desire to compete and do well and she really stepped it up in the second half.

On second half adjustments:

We talked (at halftime) that we thought we were a little quicker overall and so we wanted to run conversion and get some easy stuff on the (offensive) end of the floor. I thought we did that in the second half.

On what is important in the postseason:

Especially in the tournament, defense will win you the game. Obviously, you need to make some shots and be solid defensively, but you have to play defense.

On the slow start and playing Leo:

We didn't even have good spacing running up the floor (in the first half). I think it was kind of first-game nerves, but Leo is a great team. They came in here with four losses … it was a very difficult game tonight.
