A steady stream of mourners paid their respects to the late Bishop John D'Arcy on Thursday afternoon at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
D'Arcy's body was in an open casket for mourners to view and was guarded by two Knights of Columbus. The honor guard was switched every 15 minutes.
Family and clergy alike waited patiently in line for their moment at the side of the bishop's body. Some clutched tissues and there were few dry eyes as mourners made their way from the casket to the pews for prayer and reflection. Rosary was to begin at 5 p.m., with evening prayer scheduled for 7 p.m.
Visitation will continue Friday morning from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at noon with a reception afterward at the Grand Wayne Center.
