Thursday, February 07, 2013 12:01 am
The Fort Wayne Komets were hoping to make up points in the standings Wednesday night, but instead lost a big opportunity.Despite 36 saves from Charlie Effinger, the Komets lost to the Colorado Eagles 2-1 in Loveland, Colo. The Komets were hoping a win and two points would help them cut into idle Cincinnati's six-point lead in the ECHL's North Division and Toledo's four-point lead on Fort Wayne for second place.

After a turnover in front of the Fort Wayne net late in the first period led to a Colorado goal by Joey Sides, the Komets trailed most of the night. Thomas Beauregard scored 4:58 into the second period to tie, but then another turnover led to a Colorado goal 10 minutes later.

The Komets were out-shot in the game 38-24 and were held scoreless in five power-play chances. Fort Wayne was out-shot 19-5 in the second period.

The teams meet again Friday and Saturday in Colorado before the Komets come back to the Midwest to completed a five-game road swing.
