A male youth was in serious condition after a crash in rainy, foggy conditions Thursday night on West Jefferson Boulevard at South Bend Drive.According to a Fort Wayne Police Department report: At 9:43 p.m. an FWPD officer responded to a report of a party-pinned-in-vehicle accident. A preliminary investigation indicates that a black Chevy Cavalier was traveling eastward on West Jefferson when it attempted to pass another vehicle that was also going east. The Cavalier's driver lost control and began fish tailing into a guard rail. The driver's side of the vehicle struck the guard rail and the driver was pinned inside. The Fort Wayne Fire Department got the driver out.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition by medics. While at the hospital he was upgraded to serious condition. It is believed at this time that weather was a factor, according to the report. The light rain, fog, and mist contributed to the visibility being only 5 miles; along with slick road conditions.
This accident is being investigated by the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team. Three Rivers Ambulance Authority also assisted.
