Financial counselors available to offer informal advice

Saturday, February 9, 2013 - 12:01 am

FinancialHope Counseling and Education is offering people in financial trouble an opportunity to get some financial advice without becoming clients.

The counselors at 4105 W. Jefferson Blvd. are hosting “Chat with a Counselor” from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Feb. 25. People calling the organization, formerly known as Consumer Credit Counseling Service, or visiting the office will have up to 15 minutes to discuss their financial issues.

“We wanted to try something new for folks to give them a different avenue” for seeking help, said Mike LeClear, vice president of FinancialHope. “There's no paperwork,” he said, adding that people don't even need to schedule an appointment. “It's very relaxed.”

Counselors will be open to discussing any problem, LeClear said. He expects many of the most vexing problems among their clients will be high on the list of concerns, such as reductions in income, medical bills and credit-card debt.

People don't need appointments, but appointments can be scheduled in advance by calling FinancialHope at 432-8200 or by emailing Julie St. Martin at
