Veteran coach just sought to 'survive and advance'

Saturday, February 9, 2013 - 3:15 am

Concordia Lutheran girl's basketball coach David Miller spoke with The News-Sentinel following his team's victory over Bishop Dwenger in the IHSAA Class 3A Sectional 22 semi-final.

On moving onto the sectional finals:

“That's all you want to do is survive and advance; live to play another day. So we'll see what happens here and get ready for whoever we are going to play.”

On getting an early lead:

“I think it's really important because they got a lot of weapons; they shoot the ball quickly. (Bishop Dwenger's Ally) Christman is just a really good basketball player. We were really concerned about her, and they got several people that can shoot some threes and some bigs inside. It was nice to get that lead on them and live with that through the game.”

On making the extra pass:

“I thought we did a pretty good job a lot of times doing that. Sometimes, we held the ball a little bit too much and didn't reverse it as well as we are capable of doing, but the kids are sharing the basketball really well, and I like that a lot. That really makes us a much better team.”

On the offensive gameplan:

“We had to attack the zone because we figured they'd play some zone, and I thought we did a decent job of getting the ball inside and making the extra pass, the diagonal pass to the block, and we finished things pretty well tonight against their bigs, so that's good.”

On rebounding against Bishop Dwenger's size advantage:

“One of our keys was rebounding, as big as they were. Against this team, that was going to be one of the keys that we rebound against them. For the most part, I thought we did really well there.”
